Indian Supreme Court Judge Justice Surya Kant inaugurated five newly formed Regional Judicial Academies in Angul, Balasore, Sambalpur, Ganjam at Berhampur, & Koraput at Jeypore in virtual mode from Odisha Judicial Academy in the presence of Dr. Justice S. Muralidhar, Chief Justice, and Judges of the High Court of Orissa. In his welcoming speech, Dr. Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi, Judge of the High Court of Orissa, addressed the reasons behind the creation of the Regional Judicial Academies and congratulated Chief Justice Dr. S. Muralidhar for coming up with the concept.

He stated that the Odisha Judicial Academy has conducted about 300 training sessions in just the last five years alone and expressed the hope that Regional Academies will prove to be very helpful for the judicial officers, court personnel, attorneys and their assistants, as well as the other stakeholders throughout the state. Dr. Justice S. Muralidhar stated that the establishment of the five Regional Academies was the product of the High Court and District Judges’ coordinated and concentrated efforts, and he thanked the State Government for making these Regional Academies known and providing assistance.

The five places were thoughtfully picked, according to the Chief Justice, taking into account their geographic positions in order to establish clusters for the benefit of the neighboring districts. He said that the High Court has launched several ICT projects over the past two years and that there are many more planned. He claimed that these efforts can only be successfully executed if judicial officials, court personnel, attorneys, and their clerks receive practical training in using these technologies.
