Odisha has crossed a historic milestone in the successful removal of ash from Ib Thermal

Odisha Power Generation Corporation Limited (OPGC) today started sending ash to the Star Cement Plant in Assam. Which will be used to make PPC (Portland) Pazzolana cement. About 4,000 metric tonnes of fly ash was sent from the OPGC’s Ib Thermal Power Station to Assam today by rail.

PPC cement is a type of mixed cement. Therefore, the demand for it in the market is high. Fly ash is an important component of PPC cement. Which accounts for about 25 percent of the cement by weight. In addition, the use of fly ash as a binder in concrete rather than other cement national substances can significantly reduce environmental pollution.

OPGC has all the technical facilities to load fly ash directly on railway tracks. Which is available in very few factories. The OPGC’s Ib Thermal Power Station has three dry fly ash silos with a capacity of 2,300 metric tons per day. With today’s historic event, the OPGC has the capacity to discharge about 90,000 metric tons of ash per month. Which could be further increased in the coming months. It is to be noted that this step will increase the use of ash by the OPGC.
