Dr Jayant Panda is a man of many talents, renowned for his exceptional leadership and dedication to the field of medicine. As the former Head of Medicine at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, he has played a pivotal role in shaping the medical landscape of the region, earning him a reputation as one of the most respected doctors in the state.
In addition to his distinguished medical career, Dr Panda is also a prominent figure in the social and cultural fabric of Cuttack. He currently serves as the President of Cuttack Club, a prestigious institution that has been a hub of social and cultural activities in the city for over a century.
Dr Panda’s leadership at Cuttack Club has been marked by his unwavering commitment to preserving the club’s legacy while also embracing modernity. Under his guidance, the club is slated to undergo a transformation, with the introduction of new facilities and amenities that cater to the evolving needs of its members.
He boasts of more than 25 years of research, clinical and teaching experience. His research experience includes being the Working core group member of Recommendation for adult immunization consensus in Asia Pacific region. Dr Panda has to his credit 71 Publications in International and National peer reviewed journals like- International Journal of Diabetes and Metabolism, JAPI, IJDDC, JIMA, OMJ & OPJ. Contributed numerous article to scientific monographs, Updates and Text Book. His academic assignments include Post Graduate and PhD Guide since 2006. UG and PG Teacher and Examiner since 1998, External examiner at Gujarat University, Delhi University, West Bengal & Andhra Pradesh Health Universities, Madras University etc and DNB examiner. Faculty in National Diabetes educator programme since 2010.
Dr Panda was born and brought up in Cuttack, Odisha. He completed his MBBS from VSS Medical College, Sambalpur University in 1991 and his MD in General Medicine from MKCG Medical College, Berhampur in 199712. He joined SCB Medical College and Hospital as a faculty member in 1998 and rose to become the Professor and Head of the Department of Medicine in 202012. He has been involved in teaching, research, and patient care for more than two decades. He has published several papers in national and international journals on various topics related to medicine. He has also received several awards and recognitions for his academic excellence and professional achievements.
Dr Panda is not only a distinguished doctor but also a visionary leader who has played a key role in transforming the medical infrastructure and services in Odisha. He was instrumental in setting up the first cadaveric kidney transplant unit at SCB Medical College and Hospital in 2020, which marked a historic milestone for the state. He was also involved in establishing the plasma bank and the dedicated Covid hospital at SCB Medical College and Hospital during the pandemic2. He has been actively involved in creating awareness and providing guidance on various health issues such as Covid-19, influenza, heatstroke, and diabetes through media interviews and public lectures.
He is also a passionate social worker who has been associated with various causes and organizations that aim to improve the quality of life of the people. He is the incumbent President of Cuttack Club, which was founded in 1895 and is one of the oldest social clubs in India5. As the President of Cuttack Club, he has been organizing and participating in various cultural, literary, and sports events that foster a sense of community and camaraderie among the members. He has also been supporting various charitable initiatives such as blood donation camps, health camps, education programs, and environmental campaigns that benefit society at large.
