According to officials, two people died on Friday in Maduranthagam in the Chengalpattu district from the consumption of illegal alcohol, and a couple died on Sunday.According to authorities, up to 10 individuals, including three women, perished in the Tamil Nadu districts of Villupuram and Chengalpattu after reportedly ingesting fake alcohol.On Sunday, six residents of the Villupuram district’s Ekkiyarkuppam neighbourhood near Marakkanam passed away. Two people died on Friday in Maduranthagam in the Chengalpattu district, while a couple died on Sunday, all from the intake of illegal alcohol, according to officials.They added that “currently, more than two dozen people are receiving treatment and are reported to be doing well.”
“Two fictitious alcohol occurrences have been recorded, one each in the districts of Villupuram and Chengalpattu. Yesterday, six people were admitted to the hospital in the Villupuram district’s Ekkiyarkuppam hamlet near Marakkanam with complaints of vomiting, eye irritation, vomiting, and giddiness. A police crew arrived in the area after receiving information and took sick people to the hospital. In this, two patients are in the intensive care unit, and four people passed away because they did not respond to the treatment. 33 are responding favourably to treatment, the IG stated on Sunday at a news briefing in Villupuram.
The second incidence, which claimed the lives of four people, was described in detail by IG N Kannan. He said, “In the morning, one instance was reported from Chithamur of Chengalpattu district where two members of a family died. while a different person was receiving medical attention at the hospital. We initially speculated that this would be a suicide attempt due to a family conflict, but after observing their symptoms, we became suspicious that it was perhaps a false alcohol event.
