Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange stressed the importance of implementing technology to enhance transparency in tax collection in Bhubaneswar at a review meeting that was conducted today. Key instructions were given to ward officers and zonal deputy commissioners, and the meeting’s main topics were revenue tax and holding tax collection.
Each ward officer was given precise revenue collection goals and targets at the meeting by Commissioner. Zonal deputy commissioners were also instructed to create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at the ward level and to establish a target of 200 crore. Presentations from the relevant authorities were required in order to discuss zone-specific revenue collecting techniques.
The commissioner emphasized the value of in-depth examinations by ward officers and the requirement to evaluate and reevaluate all families. The cases of people operating firms without trade licenses yet paying holding taxes were highlighted. The existing targets for revenue collection fall short of the aim in comparison. In order to improve revenue collection, a campaign will be run at the ward level in cooperation with corporators.
To support the program, Saturdays will be dubbed “Revenue Day.” A training will be arranged to instruct ward officers and supervisors in employing technology efficiently, which will ease online tax collection and help residents. The commissioner underlined the need of locating homes, parking spots, and businesses while conducting revenue audits. Geotagging will be used to make sure that money is taken in from each residential property.
