In Conversation with Author Neingulei Kreo

Neingulei Kreo is an educator. She is a perfectionist and gives her cent percent in all works she does. She has several hobbies like writing ,singing, baking , gardening etc. She has written the poetry book “ Ragged Gloves”. Let us know more about her in this interview. Interview Times is glad to interview you.

Q1) Tell us about your first experience in the field of writing.
Ans :Being an extremely introvert child I vividly remember writing in so many notebooks, diaries as a way of expressing myself to someone I could rely on. This unintentionally created an interest in writing and as a result I found myself enjoying English classes particularly comprehension and creative writings. I stopped writing for some reasons during my college years and began again after a couple of years where I started writing poetries mostly in free verse, quotations, essays etc.

Q2) “Ragged Gloves” is a book written by you. Tell us how did you decide the title of the book ?
Ans : The title of the book “Ragged Gloves” very much describes who I am as a woman in different seasons of life. Gardening is one of my hobbies and one afternoon as I was trimming my tomato plants I got inspired to write a poem about a woman who never parts with a pair of gloves although worn-out from years of wearing it which creates a lot of gossip and rumors on the society… As I was compiling the poems for my new collection of poetry book the other poems began to feel like they were all but describing the woman in Ragged Gloves, hence the name.

Q3) Would you like to share a bit about the book. Also share the link for purchase.
Ans : In the process of writing this poetry book, particularly ‘Ragged Gloves’ I realized how much I resemble this woman as I tend to have a hard time letting go loved ones and memories even though it hurts holding on to them. This small collection of poems portray the journey of the woman in ‘Ragged Gloves’ and it is an ongoing journey, you’ll have to read this poem to understand… I am grateful to BookLeaf Publishing for the opportunity as I had an interesting time in the process of making the book come alive. I hope you find a piece of ‘you’ when you go through the poems.

4) You are an educator. Do you feel there is an importance of teachers in confidence building of budding authors ?
Ans : Yes, yes, definitely! I cannot say how fortunate I am to be among the few who are in this profession although it’s overwhelming at times. I feel teachers play a very crucial role in guiding the students to express themselves through different activities, particularly by giving constructive criticisms in their writing assignments, encouraging the habit of reading and journaling from an early age.

Q5) As we know children spend most of the time in school around 8-9 hours of the day, do you think that parents and teachers should work effectively to eradicate the problem of under confidence and lack of self esteem in children?

Ans : In a society like ours (Nagaland) where many look down on students studying in government schools, the child already has an inferiority complex thinking those in private schools get better education. Hence, a healthy relationship between teachers and parents is crucial to provide a decent environment of learning to the child. Parents cannot dump the responsibility of the child’s welfare and education completely on the teachers and vice-versa, we need to understand that the child needs both the support of parents and teachers to grow up a confident human being, and not as a robot.

Q6) Also tell us about your pen name and share your Instagram profile

Ans : I have a lot of nicknames which is why my official name sounds strange at times. As I mentioned earlier being the introvert girl I was back then, I would write stuffs using my nicknames in diaries as a way of keeping it as a secret book. After a brief pause I began writing again in 2019 with Anne as my pen name solely for letting out and thought of sharing on Instagram but again being someone who is not usually active on social media I was skeptical about posting them on my personal page. Hence, I created a new page where I write and posts some stuffs with the pen name N.Anne- N stands for my official name and Anne the collection of my many nicknames.
