As the BJP pushes ahead with elections, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of Madhya Pradesh unveiled a number of programmes and changes, including reservations for women in public employment, a rise in monthly cash assistance for women, and even loans to start businesses at just 2% interest rates.
Beneficiaries of the CM Ladli Behna Yojana in election-bound Madhya Pradesh received early Rakshabandhan presents in the form of an additional Rs 250 to their monthly handout of Rs 1,000 under the programme. According to the state administration, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan gave 1.25 crore women this extra allowance.
There is yet more to the rakhi surprise. Beneficiaries will still receive their monthly $1,000 payment on the 10th of the next month, but starting in October, they will receive $1,250 instead.
Speaking at a Ladli Behna convention at Bhopal’s Jamboree Ground, the chief minister added that attempts will be made to continue to offer household cylinders for Rs 450. The recipients’ electricity bills for the month of September will also be zero because the previously increased tariff rates will not be collected from them.
