February 2nd, arrest individuals alleged to have attacked teachers: Calcutta High Court

The four people listed in the FIR, according to the police, are still unaccounted for, but four additional suspects have been taken into custody in relation to the alleged assault.Before the class 10 board examinations begin on February 2, the Calcutta high court on Tuesday ordered the West Bengal police to detain all suspects in relation to the attack on a few teachers inside a school outside of Kolkata.On Monday, a bench of Justice Biswajit Basu gave the police instructions to detain the accused before the end of the day. However, it was disclosed to the court that the police could only make four arrests until Tuesday afternoon.

“Fifty other people were named along with four names. Four people have been taken into custody. They weren’t the people listed in the First Information Report. Among the others are they. A senior police officer stated, “Separate teams have been formed and searches are being conducted to arrest the accused persons.”

Around 20 km south of Kolkata in South 24 Parganas, a gang of persons allegedly broke into the classrooms of Balarampur Manmathanath Vidyamandir school on Saturday and attacked several of the teachers. The attack happened after reports surfaced that a teacher had molested a student sexually, while the school chose to conceal the event.
