Rath, a distinguished geoscientist, hails from Cuttack (Odisha) and is an alum of IIT Bombay and IIT Kharagpur. Before heading OIL India Limited, he served as the Chairman and Managing director of Mineral Exploration Corporation Ltd (MECL). He has also served as the General Manager with Engineers India Ltd, New Delhi, and was posted with Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Ltd. Rath is the recipient of the prestigious National Geosciences Award 2016.
