B Sairam appointed as new CMD of Northern Coalfields Limited, bringing decades of coal sector expertise to lead the flagship subsidiary of Coal India Limited

B Sairam, a seasoned professional with over 33 years of dedicated service in the coal sector, has been appointed as the new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), effective as of Wednesday. Graduating as a mining engineer from NIT Raipur, Sairam has amassed extensive experience across various domains within the coal industry, including mine operations, planning, logistics, and regulatory affairs.

His pursuit of excellence and innovation is evident through his academic endeavors, which include a rigorous 15-month full-time residential PGDM in Energy Management at NTPC School of Business Delhi. Additionally, Sairam underwent a transformative 15-day immersion program at Nanyang Business School, Singapore, broadening his understanding of global energy dynamics.

Prior to assuming the role of CMD at NCL, Sairam served as Director (Technical) at Central Coalfields Limited in Ranchi, where he played instrumental roles in driving the company’s organic growth and developing coal logistics infrastructure.

Beyond business operations, Sairam’s leadership extends to community development projects and sustainability initiatives. As Executive Director at Coal India Limited (CIL), he played a pivotal role in aligning the company’s sustainability vision with UN sustainability goals.

Northern Coalfields Limited, operating 10 highly mechanized mines in the Singrauli and Sonebhadra Districts of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, respectively, aims to achieve over 135 million tonnes of coal production and dispatch in the fiscal year 2023-24 under Sairam’s leadership.
