The decision to increase the gratuity ceiling from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh was made by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. An official press statement states that the State Government has increased the Death-Cum-Retirement Gratuity (DCRG) benefit for all regular State Government workers from Rs. 15 lakh to Rs. 20 lakh retroactively starting on January 1, 2024, in accordance with CM Majhi’s decision.
In the past, the government had been asked by a number of the state’s service associations to raise the DCRG maximum limit that state government employees could access. It should be noted that, as of January 1, 2024, the Central Government has increased the Retirement and Death Gratuity for its employees under the Central Civil Services (Pension) Rules, 2021.
