As part of a national mission, Odisha will begin testing green hydrogen buses

As part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission of the national government, Odisha will shortly start testing buses that run on green hydrogen. Five pilot projects to test hydrogen-powered cars in India have been approved by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). These comprise 37 vehicles (buses and lorries) and 9 hydrogen filling stations. The roads from Bhubaneswar to Konark and Puri will be one of the test routes.

Greater Noida, Delhi, Agra, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Sahibabad, Faridabad, Delhi, Pune, Mumbai, Jamshedpur, Kalinga Nagar, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Edappally, Jamnagar, Ahmedabad, and Visakhapatnam, Bayyavaram are other cities and routes that are part of the trials. These initiatives will be led by TATA Motors, Reliance Industries, NTPC, Ashok Leyland, and large oil corporations including HPCL, BPCL, and IOCL.

For these initiatives, the Indian government would contribute Rs. 208 crore in funding. Within the following 18 to 24 months, the trials are anticipated to start, signaling the start of the nation’s adoption of green hydrogen. Establishing the required infrastructure, such as hydrogen filling stations, and developing and testing the use of hydrogen as a fuel in buses and trucks are the main objectives of these pilot projects. With the ultimate goal of increasing their use nationwide, these trials will aid in assessing the efficiency, security, and affordability of hydrogen cars and recharging facilities.
