Facing obstacles over the release of his film Udaipur Files, producer Amit Jani held a closed-door meeting with Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on August 4. The film, starring Vijay Raaz and based on the 2022 murder of Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, has been caught in controversy following petitions filed by Mohd. Javed and Maulana Arshad Madani.
Speaking to ANI, Jani revealed it was his second meeting with the Ministry over the issue, expressing hope for a positive decision. “We respected the government’s earlier recommendations and made the required cuts. It’s others who continue to raise objections,” he stated.
Despite the ongoing legal challenges, Jani confirmed that the film is tentatively scheduled for release on August 8, 2025—provided the government grants approval. Discussions during the meeting reportedly touched upon Section 6 of the Cinematograph Act, 1952, which empowers the government to revoke a film’s certification and suspend its exhibition.
In a recent development, the Centre has withdrawn its previous order recommending six cuts in the film and stated it will hear the matter afresh before issuing a revised directive. The Delhi High Court had earlier stayed the release of Udaipur Files on July 11.
