Monsoon Session Live: PM Modi to Chair NDA Meeting as INDIA Bloc Stages Protest Over SIR Issue

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a key NDA parliamentary party meeting today after a long hiatus, coinciding with the run-up to the vice-presidential election nominations starting August 7. With the NDA holding a majority, its candidate is poised for a comfortable win.

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal will move amendments to the bill concerning the readjustment of Scheduled Tribes’ representation in Goa’s Assembly constituencies.

Congress MP Amar Singh and BJP MP Nishikant Dubey are expected to present reports from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), highlighting government action on past recommendations related to issues such as misappropriation of postal funds, Sagar Prahari Bal operations, the Indo-Nepal Border Road Project, and Delhi Police management.

The vice-presidential electoral college comprises 782 MPs from both Houses. An election is likely on September 9 if the opposition nominates a candidate. Sources say Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and BJP general secretaries are liaising with allies on the matter.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya urged the opposition to allow discussions on key bills, while BJP MP Jagdambika Pal, presiding over the session, lamented that no bill has been passed so far.

Rijiju slammed the opposition for continued disruptions, now into the third week, over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in poll-bound Bihar. He reiterated that discussions on SIR cannot be held as it is conducted by a Constitutional body and follows established precedent.
