Odisha Govt Issues Summer Advisory For Schools With Safety Tips

With summer days approaching, the Odisha government has asked schools across the state to take precautionary measures to deal with the possible heatwave situation. The School and Mass Education (S&ME) Department issued detailed directives in this regard to all departmental Directors and District Education Officers (DEOs) in Odisha.

As per the guidelines, all government, government-aided and private schools in the state should strictly follow the heatwave safety measures. The guidelines include ensuring uninterrupted availability of safe drinking water in schools, repairing tube wells where necessary, and keeping sufficient ORS packets for students and staff.

Aside from this, schools have been ordered to limit outside activities in order to shield students from intense heat. In a similar vein, the government will educate parents on the need of bringing water bottles to school. The relevant authorities have been requested to raise awareness of the need to take preventative measures in the event of a heatwave. Additionally, schools will set aside time throughout the school day to teach children how to be safe during heat waves. In order to take the appropriate action, the instructions have also been sent to the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), all district Collectors, and Block Education Officers (BEOs).
