India Slams Pakistan at UN Over Kashmir Mention, Calls Islamabad ‘Hypocritical’ on Rule of Law

India on Wednesday strongly criticised Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), accusing Islamabad of hypocrisy and pointing to its alleged role in cross-border violence affecting civilians in Afghanistan.

Speaking during the UNSC Open Debate on the “Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict,” India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Harish Parvathaneni, responded sharply after Pakistan raised the issue of Jammu and Kashmir.

“It is hypocritical to speak about international law while innocent civilians are being targeted under the cover of darkness,” Parvathaneni said, accusing Pakistan of maintaining a history linked to violence and instability in the region.

The Indian envoy referred to a report by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), which documented hundreds of civilian deaths and injuries in Afghanistan during the first quarter of 2026 due to cross-border violence allegedly carried out by Pakistani military forces. According to India, most casualties were linked to airstrikes, with the majority of incidents reportedly attributed to Pakistani security personnel.

Parvathaneni also mentioned an alleged airstrike on the Omid Addiction Treatment Hospital in Kabul during Ramadan earlier this year, describing the incident as deeply concerning.

India has repeatedly rejected Pakistan’s statements on Kashmir and other security matters at international forums. Earlier this year, Parvathaneni had also dismissed Pakistan’s remarks on Operation Sindoor, calling them “false and self-serving,” while accusing Islamabad of misusing global platforms to target India.
