Encouraging more young women to contribute to India’s industrial advancement is both an opportunity and a necessity as the country moves closer to being a global manufacturing and innovation powerhouse. Project Panchhi, a first-of-its-kind program designed to empower young girls from economically challenged regions in rural India, was started under the vision of Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal. The project is growing the next generation of women professionals for India’s manufacturing, mining, and metals industries while assisting in the transformation of young ambitions into successes thru the provision of higher education support, industry experience, and routes to meaningful jobs.

As part of the program, Project Panchhi sent more than 180 young women from engineering, management, science, and commerce to work as interns at Vedanta Aluminium’s top-notch operations in Odisha and Chhattisgarh. This gave them the chance to gain practical experience in over 30 business functions, AI-enabled learning, and hands-on industry exposure.

Participants got important insights into innovative manufacturing and mining methods, sustainability, digital transformation, and corporate functions thru organized projects, cross-functional involvement, and mentorship from leaders in the sector. The program strengthens the pipeline of future talent for India’s changing manufacturing environment while equipping young women with industry-relevant skills, professional experience, and career preparedness by allowing them to apply what they have learned in the classroom to real-world business situations.

“India’s growth story will be shaped by how effectively we create opportunities for every section of society to participate in and contribute to economic progress,” stated Rajesh Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminum, when discussing the program. Our dedication to promoting greater inclusiveness is seen in Project Panchhi, which empowers young women to take initiative, follow their dreams, and actively participate in the development of the country. We are pleased to back a project that strengthens the groundwork for a future that is more inclusive and varied.
