According to Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena on Monday, Odisha will automatically delete the registration certificates (RCs) of almost 40 lakh cars that were placed in the permanent archive because they did not comply with the required documentation. Speaking to a regional news channel, Jena stated that of the roughly 1.40 crore cars registered in the state, over 40 lakh had been placed in the permanent archive due to not meeting the necessary documentation requirements.

The minister gave an explanation of the classification procedure, stating that the Center has classified automobiles according to their compliance level. Vehicles that satisfy the requirements and have the required paperwork are considered compliant; those that don’t are considered non-compliant. According to him, vehicles that have not been used for two to three years may be moved to a temporary archive, while those that have not been used for more time may be moved to the permanent archive.

According to Jena, the RCs of cars added to the permanent archive will be immediately canceled. Owners will need to submit a new registration application if they want to use these cars in the future. He said that their applications will then be sent to the Center for additional processing.
