The BCCI has called on the Supreme Court to abolish the “cooling off period” in the new constitution. But the case has not yet been heard. According to the ‘Cooling Period’, the tenure of President Sourav Ganguly and Editor Jay Shah has completed six years in both the State Board and the BCCI. They have not yet relinquished their responsibilities as the case is in the Supreme Court.
According to information received, the Supreme Court is likely to hold its final hearing on the cooling period in the BCCI constitution on December 9. The future of Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah depends on the Supreme Court’s verdict. If the court does not agree to the amendment, both will resign.
Notably, the Supreme Court in 2018 approved a new constitution drafted by the Justice Lodha Committee. The rule was that if the state or the BCCI expires twice in a row (3 + 3), the cooling period will begin. On that basis, Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah’s term in the BCCI expired last July and May. But since the case is in the Supreme Court, both are in their respective positions.
