The WHO mentioned that the map of India does not signify the organisation’s view on the legal status of a country or a territory when the central government attempted the matter of the wrong depiction of India’s map on the World Health Organisation (WHO) website.
After the matter was brought into the notice and the government immediately informed the parliament, the UN body has put a disclaimer on its website. After the notice, the WHO mentioned that the map does not indicate the organisation’s view on the legal status of a country or territory.
The WHO had stated that it follows United Nations guidelines and practice concerning the depiction of maps.

As per the report V Muraleedharan who is the Minister of State for External Affairs informed Rajya Sabha that the issue of the wrong depiction of the India Map on the World Health Organisation’s website has been raised strongly with the WHO. V Muraleedharan also stated that in the response the WHO informed that the Permanent Mission of India in Geneva that they have put a disclaimer on the website portal.
In the official website of WHO, the disclaimer says- Designations employed and presentation of these materials don’t imply the expression of any opinion on part of WHO concerning the legal status of any country, territory or area or of its authorities or concerning the legal status of any country, territory or area of its authorities or concerning the delimitation of its frontiers or boundaries.
An India map on the COVID-19 dashboard on WHO’s website portrays the union territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh in a colour grey different from the one used to mark rest of India which is navy blue.
