After the WhatsApp new privacy controversy, now Telegram has become the most downloaded non-gaming mobile application worldwide for January 2021. With around more than 63 million installations and 3.8 times downloaded in the same month last year, now Telegram has become the most downloaded app.
According to the latest data released by app analytics firm Sensor Tower the countries with the highest number of Telegram, the installation was India at 24 per cent and Indonesia at 10 per cent. Even the application also reached the top position in the overall downloads on Google Play Store jumping from ninth position in the previous month, December 2020. The app also entered the list of top 10 most downloaded (non-game) apps on App Store, instantly earning the fourth position.
After the Whatsapp new privacy controversy, many other apps drastically increased its popularity like Signal and now Telegram. When WhatsApp started sending a notification to over 400 million users in India last month while asking them to either accept the new policy or see their account removed from 8th February, there was a huge outrage regarding acceptance of the new privacy policy.
After facing a huge backlash in India WhatsApp deferred its new data privacy policy by three months and said that no one will lose his or her account from February 8 for not accepting the updated terms of service.
