Jainpur district court issues notice to Mehbooba Mufti over insulting remark to Indian tricolour

The court heard a petition filed on PDP leader and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on the charge of insulting the tricolour. Jainpur district George Madan Palli issued a notice to Mehbooba and set March 23 for a retrial.

The petition was filed in the Magistrate’s Court through Himanshu Srivastava, Advani Court Advocate, and Upendra Bikram Singh, Advocate. On October 23, 2020, Mehbooba, the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, said she would continue to fight until Article 370 returned. Our flag has been looted. So we will not let any other flag fly. She said she would raise the tricolor when the Jammu and Kashmir flag will be in in her hands.

Mehbooba’s statement was heard at 6 pm on October 27 by a lawyer and a witness, who also accused her of treasonously insulting the tricolor. “This is an insult to the country. This had a detrimental effect on the unity and integrity of the country” he said. Earlier, the magistrate had denied the allegations. “Mufti is a legislator,” he said. As a public servant, she needs state recognition for litigation.

Challenging this, the attorney filed a review petition in the district court. The court finally issued a notice to Mufti.
