Sri Lanka to ban burqa, shut a thousand number of Islamic schools

Sri Lanka, a victim of religious extremism, is now preparing to impose a ban on burqa. A government minister in Mahinda Rajapaksa announced on Saturday that the country would soon be cut off from burqa. In addition, at least one thousand Islamic schools will be banned. Apart from Sri Lanka, many countries around the world have already imposed restrictions on burqa. A few days ago, Switzerland imposed a ban on the wearing of burqa on the basis of public opinion.

Sri Lanka’s Defense Minister Sarath Verasekera has signed the bill to approve the cabinet. The bill calls for a ban on Muslim women wearing the burqa on the basis of national security. If the bill is passed in parliament, it could be passed in the Sri Lankan parliament.
