Jal Jeevan Mission’ has achieved a new record by providing tap water supply to four crore rural households across the country as informed by the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
According to the latest data shared by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, 7.24 crore people which is around 38 per cent, more than 1/3rd of rural households, are now getting potable water through taps.
The ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15 2019 which aimed to provide tap water supply o with every rural home by 2024. The mission has reached a new record in providing over four crores of rural households with a tap water supply. While in India, Goa has become the first state to provide 100 per cent tap water supply followed by Telangana and Andaman, and the Nicobar Islands.
The Ministry of Jal Shakti stated that the untiring efforts of states and the Union Territories have helped Jal Jeevan Mission provide assured tap water supply to every family living in 56 districts and over 86,000 villages. Even states and UTs are now competing with each other and focusing on the target to ensure that every household in the country gets safe drinking water so that no one is left out.
