The central government has applied for Indian citizenship from non-Muslim refugees in Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan. In addition, applications have been made for citizenship of Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists living in 13 districts of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Haryana and Punjab.
