What Makes Pushpa: The Rise A Winner At PAN India Box Office

Pushpa: The Rise, originally to be released in Telugu, has emerged as one of the biggest blockbusters of the year 2021. The movie stars Allu Arjun in the main lead role and the national crush Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead. Also, the film has an item number featuring Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The film was dubbed in many languages for different audiences based in different regions, including Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, and Kannada. The film was not only hit in Tollywood but also set the Hindi dubbed version set the box office on fire.

According to the reports, the film directed by Sukumar was made on a budget of 160 crores, and the total landing cost of the movie was approximately 170 crores. On its first day, the film did a huge collection of 75 crores all around the world. Also, despite no promotions in the Hindi belts, the movie collected 3 crores on the opened day in the Hindi belt.

Pushpa The Rise has grossed over 100 Crores in Hindi belt making it a out an out blockbuster, whereas in PAN India level as well the movie has grossed over 275 Crores making it a superhit. Worldwide the movie has corssed 375 Crores as well.

Now the question here is, what made this movie so successful in PAN India level?

There are many reasons why Pushpa: The Rise was a huge hit on the box office worldwide.

The first and the most significant reason was the cast. Sukumar’s film starred Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna as the main leads. Everyone is aware of the popularity and rich fanbase that Allu Arjun has in the South and other regions of the country; credit goes to the dubbed versions of his movies available on satellite TV and YouTube. And what to say about Rashmika Mandanna, she is the national crush of the country.

The second reason was the storyline and the way the movie was directed. Pushpa: The Rise offers wholesome content to the mass audience, lacking in the movies released in the Hindi cinema. Puspa is a complete masala entertainer. This movie had it all, which an Indian viewer thrives for. The film had romance, powerful action, emotions, and full-on comedy. It is rightly said that a well-made masala film can never go out of fashion.

The third reason is that Pushpa: The Rise is a very native and rural Indian movie. The Indian audience is looking forward to seeing such movies. They have had enough of the influx of intellectual movies, western movies, and other kinds of films released on different OTT platforms like Hotstar, Amazon Prime, or Netflix. It has been observed that even Bollywood movies representing the background of rural U.P. or Punjab have been a massive hit. Pushpa purely represents the rural culture- the way people look and dress in India, and thus, the audience is connected to those emotions making the movie a mega-hit.

The fourth reason is the songs. The three soundtracks Srivalli, Sammi and O Antamava of this mega-hit movie are in the top charts all over the nation and are receiving views in millions on digital platforms.

What is why Pushpa did so well, specifically in the Hindi belt?

After the success of Pushpa: The Rise, there was a question in the mind of critics that how did the Hindi dub version, which had been written off and starred a South Indian actor- Allu Arjun, whose name can’t even be properly spelled by the Hindi audience, set the box office at the fire?

Many critics have reasoned that although Allu Arjun never debuted in Bollywood, the Hindi audience knew his stardom. People in the Hindi cinema were waiting for a lavishly shot entertainer with a huge budget where the hero does it all. The makers of Puhspa took the right call to release the movie with a substantial number of screens in Hindi versions simultaneously. The movie was a full-on, three-hour entertainment package as it had it all romance, comedy, and mind-blowing action.

Recently, it has been seen that South movies dubbed in Hindi are doing well on satellite TV. This is why people have started watching and accepting the well-made Hindi dubbed South movies. But not all South movies bring good business to the box office. Only a few after, Bahubali, like KGF and now Pushpa, has caught the attention of the Hindi audience. Pushpa: The Rise, a full-on masala movie, was loved by the Hindi audience.

Another reason for the success of Pushpa is that now Hindi cinema is focusing on making issue-based movies. Almost every director in Bollywood is going intellectual and, thus, has stopped making movies for the mass audience. A large Hindi audience just wants the full-package commercial movie delivering loads of entertainment. Still, Hindi cinema is no longer catering to the entertainment needs of the audience. The Hindi film producers forget that the movies are to be made for the general audience. They get carried away by an issue, look, or authenticity and thus, work on a single genre without diverting from it.

Pushpa: The Rise catered to the entertainment need of the Hindi audience. Movies like Pushpa are multi-genre, having a mix of everything and thus, are accepted by the larger audience. The film had family emotions, friendships, romance, comedy, and plenty of action.

Puspha: The Rise is a movie made by the entire cast with conviction to cater to the needs of a mass audience. It is high time for the Hindi cinema to understand the entertainment needs of the mass audience and thus, buckle up and release multi-layered and multidimensional movies just like Pushpa franchise.
