A great developmental project has been set up in Odisha till 2025. It will not only boost the economic development of the state by generating more revenues through employment but will also help in transport facilities as well as electricity development. As per the reports, 1,000 Bridge-Cum-Water Wire To Be Set Up in Odisha by 2025.
Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra reviewed the effectiveness of the bridge-cum-water wire structures at different locations during visits across the State recently. Following an assessment of these structures, Mahapatra has directed the Works Department to scale up the replication of the technology throughout the State.
Reviewing the water holding capacity of the bridge-cum-water-wire structures piloted in some districts, Mahapatra said, “It is the most cost-effective technology with multiple utilities like groundwater recharge, raising the water level in river beds, irrigating fertile land on both sides of the river etc. In some places, riverfront parks can also be developed as a public utility.”
Development Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Jena said that checking dam-cum-water wires had also no adverse effect on the usual flow of water in the concerned river or nallah as it allowed the flow beyond 1.5 meters of height. The structures could be done through two different methods such as automated gate provision, or plain water-holding structure to the permissible height. “Both the methods proved effective for our State,” Jena said.
Special Secretary and Engineer in Chief, Works Department, Manoranjan Mishra apprised the cost involved in the construction of I meter water-wire comes around Rs.1.5 lakhs. “It can hold a water level of around 1000 cubic meters. Water-ware under a thirty-meter bridge could yield 30,000 cubic meters of water at a particular point in time. The structures also sustained the pressure of water during the monsoon,” he said.
