The BJP is running an aggressive campaign in front of the Meghalaya Assembly elections on February 27, taking on all 60 seats by itself. Earnest Mawrie, the head of the party’s state unit, has claimed that eating beef is not prohibited in the state and that he often consumes it.According to ANI, Ernest Mawrie said that while he was unable to comment on the resolution other states had enacted regarding the consumption of beef, there is no ban on beef consumption in Meghalaya. “Yeah, I also eat beef. In Meghalaya, there is no ban; we have a slaughterhouse, and everyone brings a cow or pig to the market.”
“While the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has been in power for nine years, not even a single church has been assaulted or targeted throughout the nation. The opposition’s claim that the BJP is an anti-Christian organisation is merely electioneering. We are in the predominantly Christian state of Meghalaya, where everyone attends church, “Mawrie said as reported by ANI. Shiv Sena group led by Uddhav Thackeray responded angrily to Mawrie’s remarks and denounced this as having a double standard.
The party said in its mouthpiece Saamna that the BJP’s Hindutva agenda changes depending on its political interests in various parts of the country and that its love for cows is only a pretence. On February 27, Meghalaya will hold its assembly elections.
