Currently serving as Advisor, Registrar, and Professor at Birla Global University, Dr. Das brings over four decades of experience across public sector banking, government institutions, and academia. A Ph.D. in Economics, with degrees in Law and Business Management, and a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers, his academic credentials have complemented a career shaped by vision, discipline, and impact.
Dr. Das began his professional journey in banking, eventually rising to the role of General Manager in one of India’s leading public sector banks. He led regional operations across key Indian states—including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Odisha, and parts of Maharashtra and Haryana.
Among his notable contributions was drafting the Vigilance Manual for the bank in coordination with the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), reflecting his commitment to integrity and institutional transparency. He was an integral part of multiple corporate-level committees such as the Asset Liability Management Committee, Risk Management Committee, and Vigilance Advisory Committee, participating directly in board-level strategic decision-making.
Beyond banking, Dr. Das held significant policy and administrative roles. He served as Director on the Board of West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation and was associated with the Industrial Finance Corporation of India (IFCI). He was appointed Chairman of the State-Level Export Promotion Committees for Odisha and Himachal Pradesh and contributed to national planning as part of the Government of India’s High-Powered Committee on banking development in Jammu & Kashmir.
He also served as Chairman of a Regional Rural Bank for three years and earlier headed the District Industries Centre under the Government of Odisha, where he oversaw the implementation of several flagship schemes such as the Integrated Rural Development Program, Prime Minister’s Rojgar Yojana, and MSME promotion initiatives.
Internationally, Dr. Das worked with Nobel Laureate Prof. Muhammad Yunus at Grameen Bank in Bangladesh under a UNDP initiative. This experience deepened his perspective on microfinance and inclusive economic development at the grassroots level.
In 2009, following his retirement from the banking sector, Dr. Das transitioned into academics by joining BIMTECH (Birla Institute of Management Technology), Greater Noida. There, he introduced specialized banking and financial services subjects into the MBA and PGDM curriculum and represented the institute at international conferences, bringing industry relevance into academic programs.

Expansion plans include launching Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Engineering with support from the state government.
In addition to his administrative duties, Dr. Das remains actively involved in teaching, delivering courses on banking and financial services. His lectures are enriched with real-world insights drawn from decades of professional experience. He has also contributed to academic discourse by presenting papers on topics such as “Public Sector Banks – Business vs. Vigilance” at national conferences and “Financial Inclusion” during the Foundation Day Lecture series at Utkal University.
