Senior Congressman Suresh Routray, also known as Sura Routray, was barred from the legislature for a period of six years. The All India Congress Committee (AICC) released a press release on Monday informing the public of Routray’s dismissal. After numerous charges of indiscipline and anti-party activity were made against the veteran leader, the AICC took a firm stance against him.
“Taking note of the complaints of indiscipline and anti-party activities, the Hon’ble Congress President has approved the expulsion of Shri Suresh Kumar Routray from the party for six years with immediate effect”, read the release issued by All India Congress Committee.
It should be noted that although Sura is a seasoned Congressman, his younger son Manmath Routray is running for the Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha seat on a BJD ticket. Sources claim that Suresh was investigated by the AICC after he was observed soliciting votes for his son Manmath, a member of the ruling Biju Janata Dal. Congress had issued the veteran leader a show-cause notice after observing his support for his son.
Suresh, however, expressed his displeasure over the notice clarifying that he would not campaign for any other party. But, no party can obstruct the father-son relationship.
