All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar bagged the Central government’s KAYA-KALP Award for cleanliness. This is the third consecutive time the institute won this prestigious award.
As a part of the ‘Swachha Bharat Abhiyan in 2015, the Center instituted the KAYA-KALP Award. This initiative helps to acknowledge and complement public health facilities that demonstrate a high level of cleanliness, hygiene, and infection control measures.
In 2017-18 and 2018-19, AIIMS Bhubaneswar won the second position in Category B with Rs 1 crore prize money. This year – 2019-20, AIIMS Bhubaneswar won the first position in category B with prize money of Rs 2 crore.
Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Health Minister bestowed the award to the institute in a virtual ceremony in New Delhi. Dr. Gitanjali Batmanabane, Director of the institute; Dr. Sachidananda Mohanty, Medical Superintendent and PK Ray, DDA led the multidisciplinary teams to cater to each of the six areas under the scheme.
DHH Anugul bagged the award of KAYA-Kalp winner hospital while the DHH Kalahandi was runners up a hospital in DHH category and SDH Rairangpur of Mayurbhanj district winner hospital in SDH/CHC category.
This Year around 19 DHHS, 78 SDH/CHC, 66 Urban PHCs, 156 PHCs, and 18 HWC sub-centers qualified for the Kayakalp award.
The amount given as award money is used for the construction of the institute and incentivizes the work of the healthcare workers who work by risking their own life and are also termed as the real championship in this schemes. Even for the consecutive training of the staff which incorporates the culture of cleanliness and sanitation, the amount is also utilized in this work.
