According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Anand Reddy, at midnight, the fire started on a boat and quickly spread to almost thirty-five fiber-mechanized vessels.”Fire and police units arrived right away. Images that went viral online showed firefighters attempting to put out the flames while defenceless fishermen gazed at the harbour.As per the officials, the fire started at 1 am and was extinguished by 4 am, as reported by PTI, a news agency. There were fishing boats anchored at the town jetty when the fire started. Firefighters raced to the scene after learning about the incident, according to S Renukayya, the district fire officer for Visakhapatnam, who spoke with the agency.
“We pressed 12 fire tenders into service and took help from the National Disaster Response Force and the Visakhapatnam Port Trust,” he stated.
According to the officer, no casualties have been reported as of yet.However, according to news agency ANI, local fishermen believe foul play and claim that unknown people may have deliberately set the boats on fire.
