Anvesha Reddy’s journey—from a humble village in Telangana to becoming a distinguished IAS officer—is a testament to grit, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to public service. As the first-ever female Magistrate of Jajpur district, she has not only shattered barriers but redefined them, proving that with dedication and hard work, no dream is unattainable.
Born in the serene village of Annaram in the Pangal Mandal of Wanaparthy district, Telangana, Anvesha was raised in an environment that deeply valued education and integrity. Her parents, both esteemed educators, instilled in her the virtues of hard work and determination—values that would become the cornerstone of her journey. Her academic excellence was evident from an early age. She completed her schooling in Mahabubnagar, where she emerged as a top performer in her 10th standard examinations. With an innate curiosity for engineering, she pursued her intermediate studies at the prestigious IIT Ramaiah Academy.
Her thirst for knowledge led her to the National Institute of Mining in Jharkhand, where she earned her engineering degree, laying a robust foundation for her future endeavors. After her engineering graduation, Anvesha joined Tata Steels, where she gained invaluable industry insights. However, despite the allure of a lucrative corporate career, her intrinsic desire to serve the nation remained undiminished. The turning point came when she decided to appear for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examinations. Demonstrating unparalleled dedication, she devoted 18 hours a day to her studies, making significant sacrifices—including refraining from visiting home for two consecutive years.
Her perseverance bore fruit when she secured the 80th rank nationally in the 2016 UPSC results, fulfilling her aspiration of becoming a civil servant. Her journey was not without challenges. Societal pressures, particularly concerning marriage, tested her resolve, but she remained steadfast in her pursuit of excellence, proving that determination and self-belief can break any barrier.
Anvesha’s approach to administration is rooted in empathy, efficiency, and service. She sees her role as a crucial bridge between the government and the people, ensuring that policies and welfare schemes reach those they are meant to benefit. “For me, administration is about being the bridge between the government and the people. It’s about delivering government schemes and benefits effectively and providing feedback to ensure their impact is maximized,” she asserts.
Her emphasis on transparent governance has fostered trust and efficiency in the system, setting new benchmarks for public administration. Recognizing education and skill development as pivotal drivers of societal advancement, Anvesha has been a steadfast advocate for empowering the youth. She strongly believes in aligning educational curricula with industry requirements to equip students with relevant skills. “We are engaging in conversations with MNCs and other industries to analyze the skills they require, so we can implement those for our youth and make them industry-ready,” she explains. Her proactive efforts in bridging the gap between academia and industry have paved the way for enhanced employment opportunities and economic growth. Throughout her tenure, Anvesha has navigated diverse administrative challenges with poise and adaptability.
She acknowledges the complexities of governance, particularly in regions with varying economic and social dynamics. “The uniformity of regions also has diversity. Agricultural areas have their own problems, while industrial areas face different challenges. Working here requires a careful and tailored approach to problem-solving,” she remarks. Her comprehensive understanding of these nuances enables her to devise policies and initiatives that cater to the unique needs of each sector, ensuring holistic development. Beyond her administrative duties, Anvesha serves as a guiding light for aspiring civil servants. Her journey exemplifies the virtues of perseverance, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to public service. She frequently mentors UPSC aspirants, offering invaluable advice drawn from her own experiences. “It’s not about how many books you read, but how many times you read a single book. Be thorough with the content and the syllabus. Previous years’ questions are not always enough. Do everything with passion. Invest wholeheartedly in what you want to achieve, and success will follow,” she advises. Through her mentorship and motivational outreach, she continues to inspire a new generation of changemakers dedicated to nation-building.
