The Odisha government plans to implement the Prime Minister’s Road Accident Victims’ Hospitalization & Assured Treatment (PM RAHAT) Scheme as a significant step in lowering the number of people killed in traffic accidents. The program’s goal is to guarantee accident victims prompt, cashless care. Chief Secretary Anu Garg presided over a high-level meeting in Bhubaneswar to talk about the scheme’s execution.
The program offers free care for up to seven days and up to Rs 1.5 lakh in financial coverage to anyone who is hospitalized to a hospital within 24 hours of a traffic accident. The Motor Vehicle Accident Fund will pay for the expense. The program has been connected with the 112 emergency response service to guarantee that victims are quickly rescued and sent to local hospitals.
Through a faster digital procedure, hospitals will get reimbursement within a certain timeframe. Hospitals will be able to start claims using the Transaction Management System (TMS) if the Police Department uploads accident facts to the e-DAR site within 24 hours. Transparency, accountability, and prompt execution are guaranteed via an integrated technological platform.
For efficient execution, an organized administrative system has been established. The National Road Safety Council, led by the Chief Minister, Transport Minister, or Chief Secretary, will be in charge of state-level monitoring, while the Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways would lead the steering committee at the federal level. The District Collector will serve as the chair of the District Road Safety Committee, which will oversee implementation at the district level.
