India’s technology ecosystem raised $10.3 billion in the first nine months of 2026, even as funding rounds fell sharply, signalling a shift towards larger and more selective investments.
Funding Climbs Despite Fewer Deals
Technology companies raise $10.3 billion
Indian technology companies raised $10.3 billion in equity funding between January 1 and September 21, 2026, marking a 7% increase from the $9.7 billion raised during the corresponding period in 2025, according to Tracxn’s India Tech 9M 2026 Report. The figure was also around 3% higher than the $10 billion raised during the first nine months of 2024.
Fewer Funding Rounds, Bigger Cheques
Capital becomes concentrated
The rise in total funding came despite a significant decline in the number of transactions. India recorded 1,134 funding rounds during the period, down 38% from 1,838 rounds in the same period of 2025. First-time funded companies also declined 30% to 338, while Series A and later-stage rounds fell 23% to 409.
Mega-Rounds Drive the Funding Increase
18 deals crossed the $100 million mark
Larger transactions played a major role in keeping overall funding higher. India recorded 18 funding rounds of $100 million or more during the first nine months of 2026. Among the largest were Nxtra’s $1 billion private-equity round for data-centre expansion, Neysa’s $600 million Series B and CRED’s $540 million Series H.
Early-Stage Funding Shows Mixed Trends
Seed funding falls while early-stage capital rises
Funding trends differed significantly across stages. Seed funding declined 37% to $698 million, while early-stage funding increased 27% to $4.2 billion. Late-stage funding remained broadly stable at approximately $5.4 billion. The figures point to a funding environment in which investors continue to deploy substantial capital but are becoming more selective about where it goes.
Enterprise Technology and FinTech Attract Capital
AI infrastructure emerges as a major funding theme
Enterprise Applications, FinTech and Enterprise Infrastructure were among the strongest-performing sectors during the period. AI Infrastructure alone attracted approximately $1.2 billion, followed by Digital Lending at $799 million and Payments at $773 million. Enterprise Infrastructure recorded particularly strong growth, reflecting increased investment around technology infrastructure and AI-related deployment.
Six New Unicorns Emerge
New billion-dollar companies add momentum
India added six new unicorns during the first nine months of 2026, compared with four during the same period in 2025. According to Tracxn data reported by multiple outlets, these companies raised an average of $101 million before their unicorn round, compared with $205 million for the corresponding group in 2025.
Bengaluru Remains the Largest Funding Hub
The city accounts for 43% of total technology funding
Bengaluru continued to lead India’s technology funding landscape, attracting approximately $4.4 billion, or 43% of total funding during the period. Mumbai followed with $1.8 billion, while Gurugram attracted $1.6 billion, with its share boosted significantly by Nxtra’s $1 billion transaction.
What the Numbers Indicate
India’s startup funding market is becoming more concentrated
The 9M 2026 figures present a mixed picture. Overall capital has increased, but the number of funding transactions and first-time funded companies has fallen considerably. At the same time, larger rounds, stronger early-stage funding and continued unicorn creation show that investors are still committing significant capital to selected technology businesses.
For India’s technology ecosystem, the latest funding data therefore highlights a shift from high deal volumes towards larger, more concentrated investments. Enterprise technology, FinTech and AI infrastructure are among the areas attracting substantial investor attention as the market moves through 2026.
