Arun Misra, a seasoned industry veteran with over 35 years of diverse experience, is now stepping into the role of Executive Director at Vedanta, following the retirement of Sunil Duggal. Misra’s career has been marked by significant achievements, particularly during his tenure at Vedanta’s subsidiary, Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL), where he served as CEO and Director since August 2020. Under his leadership, HZL maintained its position as a leader in corporate social responsibility (CSR) within the mining and metals industry, earning him the prestigious CEO of the Year award.
A graduate of IIT Kharagpur in Electrical Engineering, Misra’s academic credentials also include diplomas in Mining and Beneficiation from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, and in General Management from CEDEP, France. His expertise in quality management systems, including TQM, Six Sigma, TPM, and the Malcolm Baldridge Model, has been a cornerstone of his approach to leadership.
Misra’s global vision is further highlighted by his role as the first-ever Indian Chairperson of the International Zinc Association. Additionally, he has served as Vice President of the Indian Institute of Mineral Engineers, solidifying his reputation as a thought leader in the industry.
Having overseen Vedanta Zinc International operations in South Africa until mid-2022, Misra’s appointment as Executive Director reflects his vast strategic experience, which spans across major industries, including a key leadership role at Tata Steel, where he was Vice President of various divisions.
As he steps into this new chapter, Arun Misra continues to exemplify the spirit of innovation and leadership that drives Vedanta forward, ensuring the company remains a formidable player on the global stage.
