Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has alleged that a major conspiracy is being orchestrated to tarnish the image of Punjab and its people. His comments followed the recent assassination attempt on Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Speaking in the Delhi Assembly on Wednesday, Kejriwal condemned the incident, highlighting that the timely action of the Punjab Police had averted a potential tragedy. “Today, a major incident was narrowly avoided in Punjab. An attempt was made to shoot former Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, but thanks to the swift response of the Punjab Police, the situation was diffused,” Kejriwal stated.
Kejriwal also addressed criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which questioned Punjab’s law and order situation following the attempt. He accused the BJP of ignoring the crime issues in Delhi while targeting Punjab. The AAP leader praised the Punjab Police, asserting that their quick intervention set an example for the world in maintaining law and order. He further claimed that powerful forces were behind the conspiracy to discredit Punjab and its citizens.
Kejriwal also confirmed that Sukhbir Badal is safe, urging the need for unity in the face of such challenges.
