“Bangladesh Summons Indian Envoy Over Agartala Consulate Breach and Chinmoy Das’ Arrest”

The latest flashpoint in the relations of both countries came when Hindu monk Chinmoy Das was arrested late last month on sedition charges in Dhaka.The Bangladesh interim government on Tuesday summoned Indian High Commissioner in the country Pranay Verma to the Foreign Affairs Ministry office in Dhaka.This comes amid tensions between both the countries since the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August. The latest flashpoint came when Hindu monk Chinmoy Das was arrested late last month on sedition charges.

Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain confirmed to the media, as reported by PTI, that Indian High Commissioner Verma has been summoned.According to the state-run Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), the Indian envoy arrived at the Foreign Ministry office at 4 pm on Tuesday. Acting Foreign Secretary Reaz Hamidullah called for the meeting.

The recent breach at the Bangladesh Consulate was among the key issues discussed, according to the country’s Foreign Ministry.In connection with the breach, Tripura Police arrested seven individuals following the arrest of the former ISKCON monk in the neighboring country. Three police officers have been suspended for negligence, and a fourth has been ordered to report to the Police headquarters.
