“ IT HAPPENED VERY NATURALLY AND LATER DEVELOPED INTO A SKILL”
Q1) We have heard plenty of times that the contribution of parents in the success of a child is massive. Do tell us how you identify Ajay’s talent in the field of Cricket?
Ans : He loved playing and started playing with a bat that his father gifted since the age of 2 years. That time it was just like any other children playing with a childish nature for his own happiness. Later after he got into schooling , he used to play with other children as well, and we understood that he was playing well. This is how his journey in cricket started.
Q2)Recognizing talent is the most important thing that a parent can do. How did this evolve over the ages and did studies come in between ?
To be very honest it was honestly a lot of effort balancing both studies and cricket that is when a parents role comes in .
Ans : Actually this happened in a very normal and organic process, while he played as a kid , Ajay’s father always kept a keen eye on him and even when he played with other children in the society he always used to do good. Later seeing his progress and when he insisted we thought of taking him in a cricket coaching centre in Rajnandgaon.
To be very honest it was honestly a lot of effort balancing both studies and cricket that is when a parents role comes in . It would be a little easier as I was actively involved in teaching students . So I used to help him making notes and this is how studies and cricket was balanced but it was definitely not very easy.
Q3)As Cricket is quite a background which involves a lot of risk, was it difficult for you as a parent to accept it as the main profession rather than education?
I was quite adamant on the fact that he had to complete his basic education and schooling .
Ans : Being from the Bengali background almost our entire family is involved in the education field , so yes initially we did not think that Ajay would take up cricket as a profession . He started playing and after he used to play tournaments , and score good his confidence also increased and our confidence in him doubled up . Still I was quite adamant on the fact that he had to complete his basic education and schooling . He represented state and by the time he reached Graduation then was the time it was decided that Cricket would take more priority as the it was getting difficult to manage everything together.
Q4) Have you ever watched any of his recent matches from the stadium ?
Ans : Actually the matches are very long and also it takes a lot of time to actually sit and watch the matches .Also its more comfortably watched on TV . So , I don’t usually watch the matches on stadiums but I do watch the live matches when it comes on Jio Cinemas. I did watch the CCPL match where Ajay was captaining for Rajnandgaon from the stadium and it was a good experience.
