Beijing to build mega hydropower project on Brahmaputra river

Beijing has made an important decision before the quad meeting. After a few days of silence, China has made the old move. Despite India’s opposition, China has decided to build a mega hydropower project on the Brahmaputra River. And the Chinese parliament has allowed it. The dam will be built on the upper head of the Brahmaputra in Assam. This will allow China to control the water of the Brahmaputra River. India and Bangladesh in the lower reaches will be in trouble.

The dam will pass through Arunachal Pradesh. Che Dalha, deputy leader of the Communist Party in the Tibetan Autonomous Region, announced that a detailed project report should be prepared immediately and the impact of the project on the environment needs to be considered. Brahmaputra is known in Tibet as Yarlang Jangbo. Where it reaches the Arunachal Pradesh border.

So if any disaster happens in the future, India will be affected for this project. India and Bangladesh are on the bottom of the project. The two countries depend on the Brahmaputra river for water. If China controls the water of the Brahmaputra River, the water effect will be reduced during the dry season. And India may not get enough water. Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in India, and floodwaters were expected to recede.

Bilateral relations have been strained since the recent clashes between the two countries’ armies on the Ladakh border. Now the decision to build a dam on the Brahmaputra river in China is likely to worsen relations between the two countries.
