A Bengaluru-based content creator couple has taken the internet by surprise after revealing their staggering monthly expenses in a viral Instagram video. Prakriti Arora (29) and Ashish Kumar (30), who have been living in the city since 2017, disclosed that they spent several lakhs in August alone — an amount that left viewers comparing it to their entire annual income.
The married duo, who gave up lucrative career paths to pursue full-time content creation, shared that their biggest expense last month was travel. They booked two international and two domestic trips, spending nearly ₹3.5 lakh. Their next major outflows included ₹42,000 on rent and ₹40,000 on fitness, with both employing personal trainers and Prakriti also taking pilates sessions.
Additionally, the couple spent ₹20,000 on groceries, ₹10,000 on house help, utilities and subscriptions, ₹13,000 on dining out, and another ₹15,000 on miscellaneous costs such as cabs, grooming and insurance. They also invested ₹1 lakh in SIPs.
The video, which has garnered over 5 million views, sparked a flood of reactions online. While some users joked that the couple’s monthly expenses equaled their yearly salary, others questioned their income sources.
Prakriti, who once turned down a PhD opportunity at the University of York, and Ashish, an IIT Roorkee graduate who quit his high-paying role as a software engineer at US-based Course Hero earlier this year, now rely primarily on brand collaborations for revenue. Depending on campaigns, this brings in anywhere between zero and ₹10–12 lakh per month. In addition, content licensing contributes around ₹20,000 monthly, with trip-hosting services in the pipeline.
Their story has triggered a mix of fascination, envy, and debate online — with many calling it an eye-opening look at the financial realities of influencer lifestyles.
