BJD supremo Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik named Barsha Bariha as the party’s candidate for the Padmapur by-election on Monday. She is the elder daughter of Padampur MLA Bijay Ranjan Singh Bariha, who died last year.
The announcement stated, “Smt. Barsha Singh Bariha, W/O Shri Smruti Sourav Baliarsingh is the Biju Janata Dal candidate for the 01-Padampur Assembly Constituency Bye-elections.”
The bypoll will be held on December 5, and the results will be announced on December 8. The deadline for submitting nomination papers is November 17, with the scrutiny taking place on November 18. The deadline for withdrawing from consideration is November 21.
The BJP has chosen former MLA Pradip Purohit as its candidate for the by-election, while the Congress has chosen former legislator Satya Bhusan Sahu.
