The Biju Janata Dal (BJD), which has less than a year till the general elections of 2024, has been employing one strategy after another to win over votes. It currently has its sights focused on the state’s female voters. The subject of 33 percent reservation in the Lok Sabha and Assemblies would be brought up by the party. However, the BJP and the Congress of the Opposition have said that the party has simply brought up the subject to appeal to female voters. In Odisha, half of the electorate is made up of women. And the BJD is fully aware that women voters have the potential to shift the game. They were essential in guaranteeing the triumph of in the most recent general elections of the party.
Because of this, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has chosen to bring up the issue of the women’s reservation bill during the Parliament’s Monsoon Session. Additionally, he requested that this matter be brought up in both the BJD executive meeting and the BJD Parliamentary Party Meet.
If he has been requesting a 33 percent reservation for women, he should adopt a resolution in the Odisha Legislative Assembly pledging that we would provide 50 percent of the 147 lawmakers in the state who are elected to office women. We would be pleased if they approve the resolution and forward it to the Parliament, according to BJP leader Prabhati Parida.
They are just bringing up the subject since the general elections are quickly approaching, according to Congress leader Bandita Parida. When an election is coming up, they play Mahila Card.
33 female candidates received tickets from the BJD to run in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. However, it was not repeated at the Assembly elections. Instead, out of the 147 seats, the party had run 19 women as candidates.
