This year seems to be unfortunate for the fraternity of Bollywood as another renowned actor Asif Basra passed away on Thursday morning. It is reported that the ‘Kai Po Che‘ actor killed himself by hanging at his private complex in Himachal Pradesh’s Dharamshala’s McLodganj.
According to reports, it is speculated that he was suffering from depression from a very long time and also had a property on lease for the past 5-6 years in McLeodganj, Upper Dharmashala. The sudden demise of Asif has left a shock for the entire Bollywood. The 53-year-old actor had appeared in many hit Bollywood movie along with recent web series, Asif was recognised for his realistic performance. Here are some of his outstanding performances throughout his career in Bollywood.
Asif has first appeared in the famous 1998 show “Woh” a horror serial based on Stephen King’s ‘IT”. After that, he worked in many critically acclaimed movies and gave his stellar performances. But the most remembering character was the iconic railway station scene from Imtiaz Ali directed ‘Jab We Met’ where he performed the role of a tea-seller. Even though his role was a short one but it gave him nationwide credit.
Asif then appeared in many memorable roles like Black Friday, once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, Lamhaa. Then he was seen playing a pivotal role in Sushant Singh Rajput’s debut film Kai Po Che where Sushant’s character Ishaan coaches young cricketers Ali and Asif played the role of the young boy’s father. He was also a part of the Blockbuster movie Krrish 3 and Ek Villain. He has appeared as the journalist in the controversial 2019 film ‘The Tashkent’, a file-based movie based on the death of India’s former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.
Recently he appeared in successful web series like Hostages season 2, Scam 1992″ The Harshad Mehta Story and Paatal Lok. Amazon prime thriller series Paatal Lok was one of the hit series in 2020, and he played the role of Jai Malik, a journalist.
Apart from Bollywood movies he also appeared in popular Gujurati film ‘Wrong Side Raja’.
After his death many Bollywood celebrities paid their tribute – Manoj Bajpayee expressed his shock over his death and said that he was a peace-loving person that is why he lived in a Dharmasaala.
Kareen Kapoor who worked with him in ‘Jab We Met’ shared her condolences through social media- “Rest In Peace Asif Basra. Heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones”. Anushka Sharma, who was the producer of the web series ‘Paatal Lok’ stated – “My sincere condolences and prayers with the family and loves ones. RIP Asif Basra. Shraddha Kapoor, who co-starred with Asif Basra in the film Ek Villain, posted a picture of the late actor with a broken heart emoticon. Nawazuddin Siddiqui was shocked to hear this news and expressed his feeling via Twitter-, “It is unbelievable, yet another loss of a dear friend Asif Basra – gem of a talent and full of life personality. Rest in peace my friend – more power to family.”
