COVID Delays Cricket Festival: BCCI Suspends IPL Indefinitely

The INDIAN CRICKET FESTIVAL IPL is on the go from 9th April 2021 starting the faceoff with Royal Challengers Bangalore and the defending champions Mumbai Indians. With corona cases increasing rapidly all the cricket matches were to be held in closed doors and there was no crowd allowed. The country is witnessing a huge spike in the COVID19 cases, around 3.5 lakh cases per day our country is dealing with a scarcity of oxygen cylinders, medical equipment, beds, and every other medical facility.

IPL was on its way making good entertainment for the people, but we have seen players and the staff members of the teams and the ground staff of the grounds have been tested positive. DUE TO THIS, IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla has announced that the IPL will be suspended indefinitely. The IPL committee conducted an emergency meeting and has decided to postpone the IPL 2021 season .“ The decision was taken keeping the safety, health, and well-being of all the stakeholders in mind” this statement was released by the BCCI after the meeting

Just before the match between Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore, two players in the KKR camp, mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy and Kerela fast bowler Sandeep Warier were tested positive with the virus. Varun Chakravarthy went for his knee scans breaking the bio bubble. The whole team of Delhi Capitals was asked to remain in isolation for few days. Also, the match was rescheduled regarding the covid concerns.

Just in two members in Chennai super kings has also been tested positive, Bowling coach Lakshmipati Balaji and one member of the driving staff. Also, there was news from the sources that the CEO of CSK has also been positive for the virus. The whole team has been put in isolation regarding the concerns.

Recently from the sources, one member from Sunrisers Hyderabad, wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha has also been tested COVID positive. Amit Mishra, a leg spinner from Delhi capitals has been recently tested COVID positive. There were various also other players who were tested positive in the bio bubble earlier, opening batsman Devdutt Padikkal from RCB, South African fast bowler Anrique Nortje from DC but the conditions were under control. Some groundsmen from the Wankhade stadium and DDCA ground were also tested positive with COVID19.  Now BCCI has announced that IPL will be suspended for a week or so to keep a check on the health of the players and to stop the increasing cases in the camp.

The biggest fear just came true, players being tested positive during the IPL matches. BCCI earlier also said when asked that they have made arrangements for the upcoming difficulties. The heartbreaking news for cricket fans was just announced by the BCCI regarding the suspension of the league. The board released that the safety of the players, groundsmen, and support staff is of prior importance. Let’s see how the time approaches and we have several questions in mind regarding the rest of the IPL season 2021. Will the IPL continue after a few days, or it will be held after months?
