Cuttack Club celebrates 158th anniversary

On April 1st and 2, the Cuttack Club, one of the state’s oldest institutions, had a special celebration for its founding day. Club held a singing talent search called MGM Voice of Barabati in which more than 100 young contestants were vetted over the course of three rounds, with the final round taking place on the first day, which happened to fall on Utkal Diwas. A panel of nine of the most well-known singers in the state, including Smt. Trupti Das, Geeta Patnaik, and A. Maheswar Rao, assessed seven outstanding vocalists, awarding awards for the best voice, title, and runners-up. The awards were presented by Sri Pankaj Mohanty, chairman of MGM Minerals.

Justice LK Mahapatra, who attended as the event’s chief guest, honored senior club members and leaders in many sectors. The winners of various sporting competitions received prizes.

The event included a fashion display, a ramp walk by tribal girls and transgender people, and a musical performance by Indian idol singers Sohini Mishra and Sasank Sekhar. For the first time in the club’s history, a complimentary meal made by chefs in Jaypur and Kolkata was provided to all members and their wives. The program that reveals the social aspect of this historic institution was led by Club President Prof. Jayant Panda, Honorary Secretary Sri Josobant Das, and all of the management committee members.
