Officials said on Wednesday that a “near threatened” species of rare orange-colored bat has been found in Chhattisgarh.
The “painted bat,” also described as an animal with vivid orange and black wings, was spotted on Monday at a banana field in the national park’s Parali Bodal hamlet, according to Dhammshil Ganvir, the park’s director.According to him, the vivid orange bat was spotted in the Bastar district’s Kanger Valley National Park for the third time in recent years. It had previously been spotted there in 2020 and 2022.

According to Ganvir, the painted bat, scientifically known as “Kerivoula picta,” is a “near threatened” species that may be found regularly in Bangladesh, Myanmar, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam. He added a survey to identify the different species of bats present in the national park will soon be carried out.According to Ganvir, the park, which covers an area of roughly 200 sq km, is rich in biodiversity and has previously been the site of numerous sightings of certain rare species of fauna. These bats favour living in deep, damp woods and dry places. They favour hiding out under banana leaves for roosting, according to the authority.

In order to identify the different species of bats present in the park and implement appropriate conservation measures, we have decided to conduct a survey. The painted bat was discovered for the first time in the Kanger Valley National Park in November 2020, according to astar-based naturalist Ravi Naidu. The specialist, who is presently working on a project for the Bombay Natural History Society, stated that “We saved it and afterwards reintroduced it into its habitat.”

The specialist, who is presently working on a project for the Bombay Natural History Society, stated that “We saved it and afterwards reintroduced it into its habitat.” The expert asserted that Chhattisgarh is home to 26 different kinds of bats and that his research paper on the subject will be out soon. Bright orange and black wings, thick orange fur on the back, and warm buff below are characteristics of the painted bat.

They lack a nose leaf and have a hairy face. He noted that they have huge, funnel-shaped ears with translucent traguses.
