A depression that developed over the coast of Bangladesh has strengthened and moved to the west-northwest, bringing with it strong winds and a lot of rain. The deep depression is centered over Bangladesh and the adjacent Gangetic West Bengal, about 90 km northeast of Canning and 100 km east-northeast of Kolkata, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The system has been traveling at 23 kmph for the last six hours, according to the most recent data from IMD. It is predicted to keep going in a west-northwest direction and will be intense until today evening. After that, during the course of the next 48 hours, it is expected to diminish into a depression as it passes across Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand.
Through the Doppler Weather Radar in Kolkata, the IMD is actively monitoring the situation to ensure that affected areas receive timely updates and alerts. It is recommended that locals remain vigilant and adopt the required safety measures.
