US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order prohibiting businesses with eight Chinese apps which include Alipay and WeChat Pay. The decision was made to protect America’s national security.
As per CNN reports Donald Trump’s order stated that for the national emergency certain action needs to be done which is caused by the penetrating of the spread of apps designed and controlled in China. Chinese Applications like- Alipay, CamScanner, QQ Wallet, SHAREit, Tencent QQ, VMate, WeChat Pay, and WPS Office will come into effect in 45 days.
Donald Trump stated that the velocity and penetrating of the spread in the United States of certain connected mobile and desktop applications and other software developed or controlled by Chinese people, including Hong Kong and Macau (China) which will continue to threaten the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States.
In an executive order, Trump stated that action must be taken to address the threat posed by these Chinese software applications. The orders follow two others Trump signed in August banning dealings with the popular video app TikTok as well as the main WeChat app. Trump further stated that India has banned the use of more than 200 Chinese connected software applications completely the country.
According to the executive order, India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology declared that the applications were taking and clandestinely communicating users’ data in an unauthorized manner to servers that have locations outside India.
Trump also said that by accessing personal electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, and computers, Chinese connected software applications can access and capture vast swaths of information from users, including sensitive personally identifiable information and private information.
