Due to bad weather, WB CM Mamata Banerjee’s helicopter makes an emergency landing

After speaking at an election rally in Jalpaiguri, Banerjee was on her way to the Bagdogra airport when her helicopter encountered severe weather.On Tuesday afternoon, due to bad weather, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s helicopter had to make an emergency landing at the Sevoke air base close to Siliguri, according to officials.The Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader had spoken at a political gathering in the Jalpaiguri district ahead of the state’s forthcoming panchayat elections when the helicopter took off from there.She had left for Bagdogra, where she would catch a flight back to Kolkata.

An army spokesman reported that “the chief minister’s helicopter made a precautionary landing at the Sevoke Military Station at Salugara.”The chief minister was among the passengers, all of whom were secure. The pilot safely landed on the runway at Salugara, which is close to Siliguri.In order to elect over 75,000 candidates in zilla parishads, panchayat samiti, and gramme panchayats, around 5.67 crore people will cast ballots.

On July 11, the results of the single-phase elections will be tallied.

The aeroplane encountered a thunderstorm while it was somewhere near the Baikunthapur jungle. To safely land the plane at the defence airstrip, the pilot had to alter course.
